Aldine Flaherty

Aldine Flaherty, 88, of Washington, died Wednesday, August 15, 2018, in Premier Health Center, Chartiers Township.

She was born March 6, 1930, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Walter Swiger and Gertie Williams Swiger.

Aldine was a graduate of Waynesburg High School and retired as a legal secretary.

She was a member of Avery United Methodist Church.

Aldine enjoyed cooking, needle point, swimming, having lunch with friends and she loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

On June 14, 1969, she married James Michael Flaherty Jr., who died April 12, 2009.

Surviving are a son, Alan B. (Brenda) Hupp of Washington; two stepchildren, James M. (Melissa) Flaherty III of Robinson and Marsha Flaherty of Providence, R.I.; sister, Eleanor (the late Chester) Tennant of Alabama; 10 grandchildren, Lloyd, Brian, Jocelyn, Carly, Ashley, James IV, Matthew, Kristen, Katheryn and Jon; seven great-grandchildren, Kylie, Zoey, Heidi, Elijah, Emmanuel, Ethan and Evan; sister-in-law, Lenora Swiger of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Aaron Hupp; brother, Gaylord Swiger; sister, Zeralda “Zee” Harris; and a granddaughter, Michelle Hupp.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 20, with the Rev. Erik Hoeke officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Avery United Methodist Church, 1100 Gabby Ave., Washington, PA 15301.
