Margaret “Peggy” Bertrand passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 14, 2018, with her loving family by her side.

Peggy was born November 16, 1935, in Midway, a daughter of the late Frank and Irene Lukan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Deane L. Bertrand, and her beloved son, Thomas Bertrand.

Peggy is survived by her son, William Bertrand (Joey and Meghan); her son, Harry “Buddy” Bertrand (Felicia); her grandchildren, Hilary (Ben) Campbell and Chad (Melissa) Bertrand; and her two great-grandchildren, Avery and Karsyn, whom she adored and loved to the moon and back. Her Wednesday lunch dates with these two is what she lived for.

Peggy worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone, where she met the love of her life, Deane. They made their home in Burgettstown, and raised three boys. Peggy was full of life. She was well known as the first female wrestling referee in the state of Pennsylvania. She took this role very seriously and ensured she could support her calls, no matter what.

Peggy enjoyed spending summers in Deep Creek Lake, Md., boating, having campfires and happy hours with the Deep Creek gang. She also spent several years in Bradenton, Fla., making new friends and memories she cherished. She was a volunteer at Blake Memorial Hospital in the cardiac unit as a runner for the surgeons in the operating room. She took great pride in helping others.

Peggy moved back to Pittsburgh in 2011, where she made her home at the Masonic Village, Sewickley. She quickly made many new friends and jumped in to help wherever she was needed. She sat at the front desk every Monday morning greeting visitors, she made countless puzzles in the puzzle room and played bingo and cards weekly.

Peggy continued to have a sense of humor and a pleasant demeanor in spite of her illness. She will be missed by all of us and will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, Gram and GiGi Gram.

At the request of Peggy, there will be no public viewing. The family will hold a cocktail reception to celebrate her life and receive family and friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, in Hyeholde Round Room, Coraopolis.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Darroch Cremation and Funeral Tributes Inc., 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa.
