Albert E. Robinson
Albert E. “Sparky” Robinson, 93, of Gastonville, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018.
He was born December 19, 1924, in Gastonville, a son of Marion and Mary Yankastie Robinson.
Mr. Robinson was retired as a maintenance technician with the former J&L Steel Corp. in Hazelwood.
He was a 1942 graduate of Clairton High School and served as an airplane engine mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Robinson was a member of Mingo Presbyterian Church and its choir in Finleyville, American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville and Henry M. Phillips Lodge 337 Free and Accepted Masons in Monongahela, where he served as worshipful master in 1976.
He also had played clarinet in the former Finleyville Fireman’s Band and was instrumental in the restoration of the WWII Honor Roll in Gastonville.
Mr. Robinson enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp in Marienville as well as his daily trip to Gastonville Post Office.
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Betty Harkins Robinson; two daughters, Janie (Ken) Blymiller of Naples, Fla., and Becky Robinson of Finleyville; a son, Albert Robinson Jr. of Hazleton; a sister, Marian Skokut of Simi Valley, Calif.; two grandsons, Craig (Eve) and Jeremy (Nakita) Blymiller; great-grandson Otto; and his close friend and neighbor, Dale Pust.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25, in Mingo Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Glenn McClelland officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Mingo Presbyterian Church, 561 Mingo Church Road, Finleyville, PA 15332, or to a charity of one’s choice.
