Nicholas J. “Nick” Cursi, 60, of Scenery Hill, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 29, 2018, in his home.
He was born August 31, 1957, in Washington, a son of the late Nicholas R. Cursi and Elizabeth “Betty” Kendra Cursi of Scenery Hill.
Mr. Cursi was a 1975 graduate of Bentworth High School. He began his career working part time during school as a laborer for McCormick Drilling Co. in Bentleyville. After school, he went to work for Lambert Drilling Co. in Bridgeville as a laborer. From 1980 to 1983, he worked for D’Appolonia Drilling in Bridgeville as a laborer/driller before going back to Lambert as a driller and as a grout manager for Lambert Construction Inc. He was skilled in many types of drilling including mud and rotary, tie-back drilling, grout drilling and anchor drilling with various rigs and machinery. He worked on various projects through his career, including being a grout manager in charge of managing several crews on the construction of Greater Pittsburgh International Airport.
In 1996, he started Keystone Water Systems, which later became Cursi Drilling Co. Inc., which he continued to own and operate until his death. He also had been a North Bethlehem Township Supervisor since 1996 and was currently serving as the vice chair.
Mr. Cursi was a member of Cokeburg Moose 1628, Operating Engineers Local 66, former fireman for Cokeburg V.F.D., and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports cars and motorcycles.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Michael Cursi (Britanny) of Bentleyville; a daughter, Ashley Hamberger (Jed) of West Alexander; three sisters, Donna Jackson (Elmer) of Eighty Four, Natalie Mazza (Mike) of Connellsville and Nannette Bailey (Mike) of Chambersburg; his devoted companion of over 15 years, Karla Gyure of Scenery Hill.
He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Gunner.
On April 4, 1978, he married Gina D. DeBusk, who died July 4, 1996.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the hour of service, Saturday, September 1, in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main St., Bentleyville, with Pastor Frances Skariot officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330, and Cokeburg V.F.D., 171 Lincoln St., Cokeburg, PA 15324.
