James Allen
James “Ted” Allen, 92, of Canonsburg, formerly of Hickory, died Saturday, December 1, 2018, in Canonsburg Hospital.
He was born October 2, 1926, in Short Creek, W.Va., a son of the late Tony and Ida Mae Dille Allen.
He served as a seaman first class gunnery in the U.S. Navy on the USS Purdy during World War II.
He was a member of Venice Presbyterian Church, a former member of North Buffalo Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and American Legion Post 902, both in Canonsburg, and a life member of Westland Sportsmen’s Club, Muse Italian Club, Russian Club and Canonsburg Senior Citizens, where he played dart ball. He enjoyed his red pickup truck, gardening and feeding the wild life.
He worked for Columbia Gas in Washington for 30 years and retired in 1981. After retirement, he went into the antique and flee market business.
Surviving are two sons, Gary Allen of Columbia, South America, and Doug (Robin) Allen of Canonsburg; daughter Cindy Semack of Hickory; three grandchildren, Scott Allen of Washington, Justine Semack of McDonald and Abigail Allen of Canonsburg; four great-grandchildren, Brittany (Tim) Cox and Connor, Victoria and Emily Allen, all of Washington; and his companion, Grace Matyuf of Cecil.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peg” Walker Allen, who died in 2011; four brothers, Everett, Leroy, Sherm and Lloyd Allen; and a sister, Louise Powell.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Rt. 50, Cecil, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, with Pastor Gary Chorpenning officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
