Thaddeus J. “Tudgy” Niemczyk, 97, the oldest resident of Bobtown, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018, in Waynesburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness.

Born June 17, 1921, in Pleasant Unity, Westmoreland County, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Muzar Niemczyk.

He was a faithful member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, a coal miner, retired from J&L Steel’s Shannopin Mine and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6159, all of Bobtown.

“Tudgy” was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, honorably serving during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Matilda “Tilly” Niemczyk, who died October 16, 2002.

Surviving are several devoted neighbors and friends in Bobtown.

Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown. Guests are asked to go directly to the church. Interment, with military rites accorded by Point Marion veterans posts, will follow in the Little Arlington Section of Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
