Douglas J. Dyky, 62, of Monessen, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Monessen, June 5, 1956, of the late Johan and Ann Talpas Dyky.
Doug was a member of The Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church in Monessen and the former Most Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, also in Monessen prior to its closing. He was a graduate of Monessen High School Class of 1974 and attended California State College.
Doug worked locally for Mathies Coal Co. and BethEnergy Mines as a shuttle car operator prior to his retirement, as well as account executive for The Robb Report in Boston, Mass., and Atlanta, Ga., before returning to the Mon Valley. He was an active volunteer for the former and original Monessen Ambulance Service.
Douglas was preceded in death by his father, John M. Dyky in 1979, brother Dennis J. Dyky in 2009 and mother Ann Talpas Dyky on October 26, 2018.
Doug is survived by his two brothers, David J. Dyky of Monessen and Donald J. Dyky of Charleroi; sister and brother-in-law MaryAnn and Michael J. Wood of Raleigh, N.C.; nephew and former U.S. Marine Zachariah J. Dyky of Scenery Hill; aunt Cecilia Kubik of North Versailles; close friend and neighbor Dave Gernot of Monessen; and numerous cousins and close friends.
At the request of the family and per Doug’s wishes, there will be no public visitation, with services conducted in private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Doug’s name may do so to the Arthritis Foundation at https://www.arthritis.org.
