James W. Bartman

James W. “Uncle Jim” Bartman, 88, of Fredericktown, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, in Mon Valley Hospital.

He was born May 6, 1930, in Gallatin, and raised in Vestaburg, a son of the late Julius T. and Anna Crnjar Bartman.

Mr. Bartman was a 1948 graduate of East Bethlehem High School.

He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. For his services, he was awarded the Koreans Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Bartman formerly worked as an agent with Prudential Life Insurance and went on to work with his brother in Angelo’s Restaurant and Bar in Monongahela. He retired in 2006. It was there that he received the nickname “Uncle Jim.” It was a perfect fit for his personality. He enjoyed conversations and interacting with all the customers.

He also loved going to The Meadows and Wheeling Island casinos and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim was a member of Hanson Cole American Legion Post 391, Fredericktown, and a longtime member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Fredericktown Campus.

On February 27, 1954, he married Ruth “Woots” Cubic Bartman, who died April 15, 2005.

Surviving are four children, James K. Bartman of Bentleyville, Joyce Lynn Blosnich (Herman) of Rices Landing, John Bartman (Carla) of Fredericktown and Joanie Bassi (Brad) of Charleroi; six grandchildren, Wendy Porter, Regina Blosnich, Laura, David and Michelle Bassi and Anna Bartman; brother Jerry Bartman (Carol) of Mansfield, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are brother Julius Bartman and sister Eleanor Kacvinsky.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Greenlee’s Fredericktown Funeral Home Ltd., 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where a prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 10, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Fredericktown Campus, with the Rev. Don Chartos officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Hanson Cole American Legion Post 391 and the U.S. Army immediately following the Mass of Christian Burial.
