Richard J. Zibrida Sr.
Richard J. Zibrida Sr., 80, of Fredericktown, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 10, 1938, in Richeyville, a son of the late Joseph J. and Sophia “Sue” Janisky Zibrida.
A 1956 graduate of Centerville High School, Richard went on to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from California State College, now California University of Pennsylvania.
Richard was a teacher for 33 years. His career began in South Allegheny and Ringgold school districts, but he spent most of his teaching years at Boyce Middle School in Upper St. Clair School District, where he taught science, gifted enrichment and photography.
He was also employed by The Meadows Racetrack for 22 years as a teller and Call-a-Bet supervisor. He retired in 1995 and filled his time with many hobbies and interests.
He enjoyed attending auctions and collecting Depression glass, winemaking, golf and Texas Hold ‘Em poker, yet he most enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the former St. Michael Archangel Church of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Fredericktown Campus.
On May 27, 1961, he married the love of his life, Mary Beth Cherup Zibrida, who died January 23, 2011. Together, they celebrated 49 years of marriage.
Surviving are four children, Richard J. Zibrida and Elizabeth A. Hosa (John), both of Millsboro, Michael J. Zibrida (Kathleen) of Richeyville and Melissa S. Faddis (Timothy) of Rices Landing; grandchildren Richard J. Zibrida III, Jessica J. Zibrida, Matthew T. Riggle, Ally M. Zibrida, Ava M. Zibrida, John E. Hosa III, Esq., Jacob A. Hosa, Kailey M. Revi, Alexandra B. Revi, Michael J. Zibrida II, Christopher C. Faddis, Ashley R. Faddis, Andrew C. Faddis and Sophia E. Faddis; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Edward (Eli) Zibrida.
Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where a prayer service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, December 10, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Fredericktown Campus, with the Rev. Edward L. Yuhas officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
