Forney Leroy Huffman
Forney “Pete” Leroy Huffman, 91, died peacefully Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in his home, surrounded by loved ones, in Reno, Nev. He was formerly from Washington.
Pete was born June 12, 1927, at home, in Greene County. He was a son of the late Forney J. and Violet E. Boyd Huffman. Pete was a 1945 graduate of Waynesburg High School.
Pete was a patriot who loved his country. He was in basic training when WWII ended. After serving his volunteer time with the U.S. Army, Pete returned to civilian life and got a job as a bus driver for Trinity High School, where he met his future wife, Helen. They married on November 20, 1949. He was employed by Bell Telephone as a repairman from 1950 until he retired in 1992.
Pete’s hobbies included gardening and family. He learned hard work and gardening as a young boy growing up in a large family on a farm in Greene County. As a father, he continued gardening as a supplement to feed his own family.
Family, especially the children, brought Pete happiness in life. He loved to see little ones smile and to hear them chatter and laugh. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest love and joy. He takes a piece of their hearts with him. They loved him every day, and now they will miss him every day.
Surviving are six children, Barbara Jane Huffman of Canonsburg, Gary (Ruth) Huffman of Washington, Linda (Kevin) Lasko of Reno, Randy Huffman of Oklahoma, Sherri (Jamie) Bailey of Slippery Rock and Missy (Chris) Lotz of Lebanon; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
