John J. Collis III

John J. “Skeeter” Collis III, 57, of Washington, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in Washington Hospital, surrounded by family, as a result of a heart attack.

He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. Mr. Collis was a devoted and loving son, brother and uncle.

He was born March 2, 1961, in Washington, a son of Virginia M. Swan Collis and the late John J. Collis Jr.

Mr. Collis was a 1979 graduate of Trinity High School. He then attended West Point Preparatory Military Academy on a football scholarship and, after an honorable discharge, transferred to West Virginia University as a tackle with the Mountaineers.

He lived for a number of years in Columbus, Ohio, and returned to Washington in 2004.

Mr. Collis was employed by International Gasket and Shim Industries, Meadow Lands, as a steel fabrication machinist.

He was a Little League football, basketball and baseball coach and was also a football and basketball WPIAL referee.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two brothers, Michael T. (Pamela Van Cara) Collis of Upper St. Clair and Samuel P. (Sharon Fal) Collis of Westerville, Ohio; a sister, Gina M. Collis of Washington; three nephews, Alexander, Sebastian and Spencer Collis; and a niece, Mia Collis.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15, with Pastor Thomas P. Belhy officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
