Mary Elizabeth Aloia

Mary Elizabeth Aloia, 98, of Washington, died Saturday, December 22, 2018, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care.

She was born July 14, 1920, in Washington, a daughter of the late Joseph and Letizia Martino Aloia.

She was employed at Hillsview Sanitarium, now Presbyterian Senior Care, Taylor’s Pharmacy and Beau Mart in East Washington.

Mary loved her family, especially her four generations of nieces and nephews, whom she helped raise. They all loved her very dearly.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and the Sons and Daughters of Italy Primo Italiano Lodge 2800, of which she was the sole survivor of the original members.

Mary is survived by her brother, Louis (Vernadean) Aloia, and sister Sara “Sally” Jane Aloia, who was her devoted caretaker.

She leaves behind six good friends, Becky, Chandra, Gloria, Suzie, Randy and Kim.

Mary was happiest sitting on the porch in the summer watching the deer, birds and other animals stroll onto her porch. However, if they got too close to her, she would yell for her sister to chase them away.

She is proceeded in death by her parents; brother Dominic Aloia; four sisters, Virginia Chicora, Rose Salisbury, Louise Jones and Pearl DeLuca; nephew Frankie Jones; great-nephew Paul Chicora Jr.; and great-niece Rhonda Furmanek.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 29, in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Washington, with Father John Lynam as celebrant. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
