Frances Marie Blacka Monack
Frances Marie Blacka Monack, 83, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 29, 2018, in South Hills Health And Rehabilitation Center, with her family by her side.
Frances was born July 7, 1935, in Belle Vernon, a daughter of late John F. and Edna Stein Blacka. She attended Marion School but left in eighth grade to take care of her brothers, who lovingly called her sister.
She worked as a waitress at several restaurants including Kozy Korner, J.I.B. and Washington Restaurant. She baby-sat for many, many families in the Mon Valley, Canonsburg and Peters Township area from her teens through her 60s.
Frances spent her life truly taking care of others. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She adored being ‘Grammy’ to her granddaughters Julianna Marie and Jenna Elizabeth Ronto.
On June 10, 1961, she married Martin P. Monack, who passed away April 29, 1999. They lived in Charleroi, then relocated to Canonsburg, where they raised their two children, Martin Michael Monack and Linda Marie (John) Ronto, who reside in Washington.
Frances is also survived by her two brothers, Allan (Dottie) Blacka of Bridgeville and David (Jannine) Blacka of Belle Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin P. Monack; an infant baby girl; brother John F. Blacka; and stepbrother Bob (Patricia) Blacka.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg. Additional visitation will be held in the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of funeral services, Thursday, January 3, with Pastor James Meyers officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
In lieu of flowers, Frances would have been pleased to see donations go to her granddaughters as a blessing toward their education.
