Andrew E. “Andy” Gacek Sr., 95, of Clarksville, died Friday, February 2, 2018, in Waynesburg HealthCare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born August 31, 1922, in Republic, a son of the late John and Kunegunda Pawelczak Gacek.
Mr. Gacek served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired as a coal miner.
He was a member of St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church of Jefferson, American Legion Post 954 of Jefferson, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793 of Waynesburg, Disabled American Veterans Post 123 of Waynesburg and Clarksville Area Lions Club.
Mr. Gacek was an avid golfer and lifelong member of Rohanna’s Golf Course, where he won the club championship nine out 15 times.
Surviving are a son, Andrew E. Gacek Jr. of Waynesburg; a daughter, Pati Adams of Kittanning; a stepdaughter, Georgana (Jack) Collins of Apollo Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Catherine (Dustin) Surber of Waynesburg and Drew (Heather) Gacek of Suwanee, Ga.; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Schodowski of Wayside, N.J., and Sophie Kopechessi of Queens, N.Y.
Deceased are seven brothers, John Jr., Alexander, Charles, Edward, Louis, Leopold and Stanley Gacek, in infancy, and two sisters, Helen Gierczak and Theresa Mihealsick.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a blessing service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church, 1340 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, with the Rev. J. Francis Frazer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, 1003 Jefferson Road, Morgan Township. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 954, Jefferson.
