Richard “Dick” Arnowitz, 89, of Penn Township, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, in Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe.

He was born October 26, 1928, in Philadelphia, a son of the late Louis and Julia Reason Arnowitz.

Mr. Arnowitz and his wife, Doris Kornblum Arnowitz, were married May 27, 1950, and moved to Pittsburgh shortly after their wedding.

He began his career in sales with outdoor advertising then took a position selling bonds for the State of Israel. In 1963, he decided to find a sales-oriented position that would allow him to spend more time with his wife and their children, Steven and Frances. Being a young businessman, he opened one of the first Open Pantry franchise stores in Pleasant Hills. It was a family operation that continued until the store was sold in 1970. Mr. Arnowitz, or “Dick” as he was known to his family and friends, then went back into outside sales as a manufacturer’s representative and remained a self-employed entrepreneur for the rest of his working career.

Mr. Arnowitz was a devoted family man as well as a generous volunteer. He helped to organize community days in Pleasant Hills, when his children were young. His two greatest passions in life though were Kiwanis International and Tri City Meals on Wheels. With Kiwanis, he served in several capacities including multiple terms as president and lieutenant governor. With Meals on Wheels, he assisted in streamlining their daily operations, helping with purchasing and in whatever way he could.

In addition to his wife, surviving are son Steven (Colleen Murphy) and daughter Frances (David Cinardo).

He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

The nurses and staff at Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe provided him with compassion and care during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kiwanis International at www.kiwanis.org, Rotary International at www.rotary.org, Tri City Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 975, Greensburg, PA 15601, Pittsburgh School for the Blind at www.wpsbc.org, or a charity of one’s choice.

A memorial service will be held at a later date so that his family and friends can celebrate a life that was full and very well lived.

Funeral arrangements are being handled through Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Latrobe. To post a condolence, visit www.hartman-grazianofuneralhome.com.
