Ruth Rippel McGowan, 90, of Eighty Four, Somerset Township, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning, February 3, 2018, in The Residence at Hilltop, Monongahela.

She was born November 16, 1927, in Forward Township, a daughter of William C. Rippel and Gertie Tarr Rippel.

Mrs. McGowan graduated from Elizabeth High School and attended Westminster College.

She was a private secretary for Joy Manufacturing Co. in Pittsburgh. She, along with her husband and sons, owned and operated McGowan Farms in Somerset Township.

Mrs. McGowan was a member and for over 30 years the organist at Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church in Eighty Four. She was as a member of Martha V. Paul Order of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women’s Association and active in Pennsylvania Farmers Association as a farm wife.

Surviving are son Bruce McGowan; brother Albert “Bud” Rippel (Lucy); sister Lois Rippel Laird; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in additional to her parents, are her husband, Roy N. McGowan; son William Walter McGowan; and siblings Margaret Tignanelli, Minnie Lehman, Martha Briegel, Grace Rippel, Charles Rippel, William “Cliff” Rippel II, John Tarr Rippel, Christy “Tim” Rippel, Ralph Rippel and Lawrence Rippel.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, with the Rev. John Pipp officiating. Interment will follow in Pigeon Creek Cemetery, Somerset Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church, 45 Church Road, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
