Jeffrey Lee Cozart, 46, of Uniontown, formerly of Wileyville, W.Va., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 3, 2018, in his home.

Born May 21, 1971, in New Martinsville, W.Va., he was a son of French Vernon (June) Cozart and Judith Ann (James) Judge Rizor.

Mr. Cozart was a 1989 graduate of Hundred (W.Va.) High School.

He was a well-known and established photographer beginning his varied career with the Wetzel Chronicle, as both a photographer and sports writer. He earned his paramedics license in his mid-20s to pursue his lifelong passion to serve those in need. He worked first for Marion County Rescue then later for American EMS, Marclay EMS, Tri-County EMS, Fairchance EMS, Somerset EMS, Wileyville and Hundred firefighter and EMT squads. His skills in the paramedic and emergency medical field led him to teach continuing education to various paramedics and EMTs. He earned multiple lifesaver awards during his career that expanded over 30 years.

Mr. Cozart’s desire to be of service to his community led him to work for Greene County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy and later as a sergeant for Greene County jail. Photography remained a passion of his, and he opened and operated his own photography business which bore his name, Jeff Cozart Photography.

He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, WVU Mountaineers and Hundred Hornets. He combined his love of sports with doing photo shoots for local teams. He could be found regularly attending sporting events for work and pleasure.

When Mr. Cozart wasn’t working as a rescuer or at a sporting event, he would be traveling for his photography business. Some of his favorite places to go included Las Vegas, Nev., Chicago, Ill., Florida and New Jersey, while taking photographs and pursuing his passion. He enjoyed dining at Primanti’s, attending country music concerts, playing poker and hosting get-togethers with family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a son, Austin Lee Cozart of Mannington, W.Va.; a brother, Jason (Carrie Cavanaugh) Cozart of Waynesburg; stepsisters Renee Goddard of Spencer, W.Va., Jennifer (Yjay) Eller of New Martinsville, W.Va., Melissa (Jason) Yeater of New Freeport and Debbie (Murray) Hoy of Waynesburg; stepbrother Jeff (Jennifer) Rizor of Waynesburg; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home LLC., 3275 West Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, PA 15359, 724-499-5181, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 8, with Minister Larry Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Springhill Township.
