Violet Shiel, 84, of Langeloth, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018, in Washington County Health Center.

She was born April 22, 1933, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Albert and Christina Okavitch Sinan.

Prior to retirement, Mrs. Shiel was employed by Ace Reconditioning in Washington and All American in Langeloth.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown and its Christian Mothers.

Mrs. Shiel was a faithful member of Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) and enjoyed going to the casinos and crocheting, but most especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. She made homemade jelly whenever she could talk her grandsons into going into the woods to pick berries.

Surviving are her children, Edward Shiel Jr. of Langeloth, Diane (Dick) Gillespie of Long, S.C., and Corrine (George) Aten of Bulger; her grandsons, Chris Gillespie, Rich Gillespie, Jason (Jen) Shiel and George “Bub” Aten Jr.; a great-grandson, Austin Shiel; a sister, Alberta Beckett of Eldersville; an uncle, Rudolph Okavitch; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Edward “Butch” Shiel Sr., who died August 15, 1997; and a brother, Edward Sinan.

To honor Mrs. Shiel’s wishes, there was no visitation. Other arrangements were held at the convenience of the family.
