Daniel C. Urbanik of Washington passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018, on his 89th birthday.
He was a son of the late Frank and Helen Jackson Urbanik.
Mr. Urbanik was a graduate of Washington High School and Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict.
Mr. Urbanik was employed by General Motors as a general supervisor for more than 30 years.
He was also a licensed airplane mechanic at Washington County Airport and many other area airports.
Mr. Urbanik was a member of American Legion Post 175, Washington, and Washington Flyers Club.
He was a crew member of the Berlin Airlift Flying Museum.
Mr. Urbanik was a passionate woodworker and showman. He entertained many nursing home residents with his music and magic shows.
He had a talent for finding a solution to any problem. He always made the time to help anyone with any kind of project.
Mr. Urbanik was a lifelong member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington, serving as head usher. He was active in the church’s Holy Name Society and volunteered for all church functions. For many years, he was a funeral home assistant at DeAngelo Funeral Home, where he made many friends.
On September 2, 1950, in St. Hilary Church, he married Anna Marie Cain, who passed away November 27, 2009.
Surviving are two daughters, Judith (Richard) Mikula of Weirton, W.Va., and Janice (Annette Tiesman) Urbanik of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Mikula of Weirton and Natalie (Tyler) Basilone of Pittsburgh; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Mikula; and seven nieces and nephews.
Over the past several years, he forged a special friendship with Julia DeAngelo of Canonsburg.
Deceased are two sisters, Frances Sendro and Clara Katz; and three brothers, Emil, Joseph and John Urbanik.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 17, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, 320 Henderson Avenue, Washington. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
