Montie Russell Allen, 87, of Coal Center, died Sunday, February 11, 2018.
He was born Friday, September 28, 1930, in Pliny, W.Va., a son of the late Emmitt and Fanny Conard Allen. He was the youngest child, with seven sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Allen was a true gentleman who greeted others with kindness and generosity and a fine sense of humor. He was a renowned sportsman and spent many happy days fishing in Pennsylvania and hunting in wild locations throughout the United States.
He was a member of Centerville American Legion and a veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Allen retired from U.S. Steel and worked on the Monongahela and Ohio rivers as a supervisor of barge transportation, where he met his future wife, Helen Martin, who worked as cook for the barge line prior to their marriage.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Helen, who died August 7, 1996; her parents, Olympia and John Martin; and her sister, Rita Patterson.
Left to cherish his memory are his niece, Tina Patterson Frost and husband John, and their children, Nathan Frost, Mark Lewis and Jillian Frost Kalyan and husband Gorav.
His special friends were Reed Vira, Margaret, John and Jamie Miller, and the late Norma Gallagher and her children Kim, Barb, Patrick, Katie, Megan and Michael Gallagher.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and until 11 a.m., the time of services, Saturday, February 17, in Mariscotti Funeral Home Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, with the Rev. Katy Yates Brungraber officiating.
Interment will follow in Taylor Cemetery, Brownsville.
