Alfred G. Higgins
Alfred G. “Al” Higgins, 70, of West Alexander, died Sunday, February 18, 2018, in Washington Hospital.
Mr. Higgins was born June 24, 1947, in New Castle, a son of the late Alfred G. Higgins Sr. and Mildred M. Timmer Higgins.
He attended Neshannock schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving 13 months as a helicopter gunner in Chu Lai, Vietnam.
Mr. Higgins went on to own A.G. Higgins Contracting. He then was employed as a production manager for Oil and Gas Services.
He enjoyed woodworking, and was Protestant.
On June 2, 1998, in Washington, he married Melanie J. Johnson. Mrs. Higgins survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Scott A. (Tamara) Simcoe of Greenville and Jeremiah (Patti) Higgins of State College; a daughter, Jessica A. (Eric) Wright of Deemston; two stepsons, Raymond A. Wade of Canonsburg and Robert W. Jackson of McDonald; two stepdaughters, Amy B. (Brian) Kulbacki of Canonsburg and Jennifer L. (Chris) McAndrew of Oakdale; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Thomas “Tommy” Higgins.
Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., the hour of services, Wednesday, February 21, in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, with Minister John Ater officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil. Military honors will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
