Charles A. “Katz” Kacvinsky Sr., 88, of Canonsburg, died Friday, January 5, 2018, in his home.
He was born August 15, 1929, in Canonsburg, a son of Joseph and Johanna Kacmarek Kacvinsky.
Mr. Kacvinsky attended Canonsburg High School, where he played football, until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean War, receiving the Korean War Service Medal with five stars, the Combat Badge, and the Distinguished Unit Emblem.
Prior to his retirement, he worked in the electrical department as a winder at McGraw-Edison.
Mr. Kacvinsky was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg, where he was a member of Catholic Men’s Club.
He was a lifemember of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191, where he was active with the Honor Guard. He was a 60-year member of Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Canonsburg B.P.O.E. and American Legion Post 902. He served on Canonsburg Council for four years.
On November 9, 1979, he married his wife of over 38 years, Linda Wilson Kacvinsky, who survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Jane Young of Canton, Ohio; his niece and friend, Shelly Keene; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his brothers, Steve, Joseph, William, Albert and Gilbert Kacvinsky; and a sister, Mary Kuchera.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, J. David Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Sollon Funeral Home, where departing prayer services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, followed at noon by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military rites accorded by VFW Post 191 Honor Guard.
The family kindly suggests memorial contributions to Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department or Canonsburg Town Park in Charles Kacvinsky’s name.
