Joseph B. Hewitt, 72, of Washington, formerly of Lakeview Drive, passed away into his savior’s arms, Sunday, January 7, 2018, in Cura Health Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born April 27, 1945, in Washington. Mr. Hewitt attended Washington High School. He was employed as a crane operator at McGraw Edison for over 20 years and 10 years for Corwin Jeep and Eagle in Hickory. He enjoyed working on small motors, woodworking, football and most of all loved family time. Mr. Hewitt was formerly a member of the Eagles.

His former wife and mother of his children, Velma J. Smith Hewitt, survives. He was also married to Nancy Ashbrook Bedillion Hewitt, who died June 28, 2008.

Surviving are his children: sons Joseph H. (Beth) Hewitt of Washington and Robert W. “Bob” Hewitt of Washington and a daughter, Patty J. (Dennis) Kelley of Burgettstown; four stepdaughters, Patricia (Teddy) Michaliszyn, Michelle (Bryan) Leyda, Cheri (Stephan) Zofchak and Nichole (Timothy) Reese, all of Washington; two sisters, Martha (John) McCartney and Ellen (Buck) McCartney, both of Washington. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Hewitt was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Carla Bedillion.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 11, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Graysville.
