Virginia L. Slater Schivley
Virginia L. Slater Schivley, 95, of South Park, died Thursday, January 11, 2018.
She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. J. Kenneth Schivley and treasured mother of Susan Schivley of Baldwin, Kenneth D. (Sherry) Schivley of Nottingham Township and Timothy L. (Janet) Schivley of Washington. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Schivley belonged to various golf leagues and played across the country until she was 93. She enjoyed memberships in bridge clubs and a bowling league and was often the organizer for her many interests. Whenever she was surrounded by family and friends, she was a bubbly joy and great conversationalist. She often said, “Personality, personality, personality!”
She was a longtime resident of South Park.
She was born September 8, 1922, in Gill Hall, a daughter of Otto and Florence Slater. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Gill Hall and was also a member of Gill Hall United Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Schivley attended Duff Business School and worked as an executive secretary for Consol Research and Development.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Griffith Funeral Home Inc., 5636 Brownsville Road, South Park Township, 412-655-4600, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 15.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Mrs. Schivley’s name to American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
