Cecil J. Metcalf, 94, of Carmichaels, died Sunday, January 14, 2018, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

He was born November 23, 1923, in Mount Clare, W.Va., a son of the late Cecil D. and Pansy Van Fossen Metcalf.

Mr. Metcalf was married to Mary Jane Pokorny Metcalf for 58 years until her death in 2005.

Surviving are two children, Carolyn McIntire (Ed) of Carmichaels and Laura Jelinek (James) of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren, Kathy Cyr (Brent) of Carmichaels, Traci Doman of Johnstown, Jaine Jelinek of Chicago, Tara Donai (Jeremy) of Morgantown W.Va., Brian Metcalf (Rachel) of Greensboro and Melissa Cramer (Craig) of Myerstown; five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Wood (Andrew), Devan Doman, Addison Donai, Jeremy Donai and Connor Cramer; and a daughter-in-law, C.D. Metcalf of Greensboro.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a son, Dennis Metcalf; and five siblings, Dorothy Black, Maxine Kovach and Charles, Walter and Leslie Metcalf.

Mr. Metcalf served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific.

He worked in the Duquesne Light Co. mine at Greensboro for 47 years. He was a proud member of United Mine Workers of America and served as secretary-treasurer of District 4 from 1968 to 1973.

Mr. Metcalf also served as chairman of the board of Centerville Clinics for several years.

He attended St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels.

In his spare time, Mr. Metcalf put in a large garden and loved to share it with his neighbors and friends.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the time of prayer service, Thursday, January 18, in Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA, 15320 (724-966-5100), Paul M. Lesako, supervisor, Robert T. Lippencott, funeral director. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Hugh Church, Carmichaels, with the Rev. John Bauer as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township, with full military rites accorded by American Legion Post 400 and the U.S. Navy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans at DAV.org; or Flenniken Public Library, 107 East George Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
