Lloyd D. Smith, 89, of Mather, died Friday, January 19, 2018, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.
He was born January 28, 1928, in California, a son of the late Leslie and Gertrude Gillen Smith.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had worked as a coal miner at Vesta 4, and then as a federal mine inspector with the Bureau of Mines, before retiring.
Mr. Smith was a member of United Mine Workers of America, American Legion Post 954 in Jefferson and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793 in Waynesburg.
On February 26, 1949, he married Betty A. Fencil, who died February 24, 1998.
On May 12, 2001, he married Charlotte Virgili, who survives.
Also surviving are a stepson, Fred Virgili and wife Jenny of Mather; a stepgranddaughter, Aleeah Virgili; two grandchildren, James Lloyd Smith of Carmichaels and Amanda Hartung of New Hampshire; and a great-grandson, Samuel Hartung.
Deceased, in addition to his first wife, are a son, James L. Smith; a granddaughter, Jennifer Smith; and two sisters, Marilyn Neugebauer and Marie Banasik.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 24. Interment will follow in Jefferson Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 954.
