Carolyn Joyce Pivovar Stepp passed away peacefully Monday, January 22, 2018, in Donnell House, Washington, guided by her angels and surrounded by her loving family after a five-year battle with multiple myeloma. She was born at home on Christmas Day, 1935, to the late Victor and Helen Yager Pivovar of Vesta Six. She had one sister, Connie Pivovar Handlowich (deceased).
She graduated in 1953 from Centerville High School and on June 27, 1954, married Kay L. Stepp of Marianna. They made their lifelong home in Scenery Hill, where they raised two sons, David Stepp of Port Alleghany and Alan (Judy) Stepp of Scenery Hill, and a daughter, Audra Stepp of Boynton Beach, Fla.
She is survived by three grandchildren, David (Melissa) Stepp Jr. of Port Alleghany, Aaron Stepp of Boynton Beach, Amanda Stepp of Sterling, Va., and four great-grandchildren, Emily, Marrisa, Allison and Dalton Stepp, all of Port Alleghany. She is also survived by two nieces and eight nephews.
She worked for more than 25 years in Bethlehem-Center School District, where she retired in 2005 as a secretary in the high school guidance office. She loved her work at the school and the interaction with the students who came into her office. She was an avid reader, often reading several books in a matter of a week. Also a great cook, she was often awarded blue ribbons for her entries in the Washington County Fair for her homemade buns. She loved to make crafts and to decorate her beloved country home inside and out with treasures she found at yard sales and flea markets.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or services. She only wanted those who knew and loved her to remember her when she was alive and well. Arrangements are entrusted to Cremation and Funeral Care of McMurray.
One of her favorite charities was the City Mission and her favorite pastime was reading. The family requests any memorial contributions made in her memory to: The City Mission, 84 West Wheeling Street, Washington, PA 15301, or Marianna Library, 247 Jefferson Avenue, Marianna, PA 15345.
