Julia Matyuf Spetek, beloved wife of the late John Ivan Spetek, fell asleep unto her Lord at the age of 89, Monday, January 22, 2018.

She was born December 27, 1928, in Canonsburg, the youngest daughter of the late John and Anna Czap Matyuf. In addition to her parents and husband of 61 years, she was preceded in death by her brothers Pete, Harry, Mike, John and Steve Matyuf and sisters Mary Kacvinsky, Anne Puskarich and Eva Pirih.

She was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her children and others before herself. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Canonsburg and was an avid Chicago-style polka dancer and enjoyed attending weekly dances and playing bingo. Her pierogi and bread recipes will live on for many generations, an inspiration for a granddaughter to enter the culinary profession.

She is survived by her daughters, Anna Marie Spetek, Nancy (Lenny) Dankovchik and Shirley (Don) Resnik; grandchildren Michael (Jennifer) Rokovich of Burlingame, Calif., Karen Resnik of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and Jenna Resnik of Charleston, S.C.; great-grandchildren Landon and Maxwell Rokovich; brother William Matyuf of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, W.Va. Additional visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 601 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg, where Parastas services will be held at 7 p.m. and Funeral Liturgy of Orthodox burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 27. The Very Rev. Father Joseph Oleynik will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Springs Cemetery, Canonsburg.
