Morris Carl Knabenshue, 96, of Steubenville, Ohio, died peacefully Wednesday, January 24, 2018, in Weirton (W.Va.) Geriatric Center.
He was born March 26, 1921, in Elkins, W.Va., a son of the late Alva Carl and Effie Myrtle Heater Knabenshue.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are the love of his life, his wife, Edna Blanche McElroy Kanbenshue; a daughter-in-law, Sarah J. Knabenshue; a brother, James Carter Knabenshue; and three sisters, Ona Marie Rosnick, Rose Mary Merrick and Vera Knabehshue.
Mr. Knabenshue was a 1939 graduate of Clay-Battelle High School.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. For his service to his country, he received the following commendations: the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal.
Mr. Knabenshue retired from Weirton Steel Corp., where he worked in the coke plant as a motor inspector for 17 years.
He was a member of Follansbee (W.Va.) Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are four devoted children, Debra (Michael) Durila of Claysville, Edwin Mark Knabenshue of Lookout, W.Va., Carolyn Marie Elliott of Steubenville and Timothy Carl Knabenshue of New Cumberland, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday in Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main Street, Follansbee. An additional visitation will be held from 11 to 11:30 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, January 27, in Church of the Nazarene, 144 Mahan Lane, Follansbee, with the Rev. Jesse Keenan officiating. Interment will follow in New Cumberland (W.Va.) Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
