Faye E. Veatch

Faye “Red” E. Veatch, 79, of Portage, Ind., passed away Monday, January 22, 2018.

She was born December 28, 1938, in California, a daughter of the late Clayburn and Ella Wilson Childs.

Surviving are daughters Vanessa (Robert) Ellis of Portage and Teri (Jeffrey) Faulkner of Portage; adopted son Charles Wayne Vann; grandchildren Alex (Catie) Getty, Trent (fiancée Katie) Ellis, James Getty, Tara (Jon) Lehmann and Savannah Wood; former son-in-law and friend J.D. Getty; and beloved nephew Eddie Veatch.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 591/2 years, Melvin “Gabby” Veatch, and four brothers, Charles Childs, Vernon Childs, Kenneth Childs and Jimmy Childs.

Mrs. Veatch worked as a homemaker for over 50 years. She was a member of the “Domestic Engineers Club” and assistant 4-H Leader for “Snoopy’s All Stars Club.”

She sang in the church choir for over 20 years at First Presbyterian Church along with being an elder, teaching Sunday school and writing the newsletter for the church for many years.

Mrs. Veatch contributed to her families income by taking on ironing, sewing, cooking, baking, canning and making handmade crafts.

She was an avid flower and animal lover and collector of cookbooks. She loved to write stories and journal. She loved having special friendships with her girls, Cookie, Diana, Carol, Janice, Paula, Elfie, Martha, Ruthie and many relatives. She was well known for “shooting straight from the hip.” If you don’t want to know don’t ask (smile). Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and family, she was always there for everyone. She leaves behind her beloved “Hershey Dog” of 13 years.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Avenue, Portage, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 29, with Pastor Jeremiah Byers officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
