Patrick M. Alterio, 96, of Canonsburg, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, in Consulate Skilled Nursing Center, North Strabane Township.

He was born January 14, 1922, in Washington, a son of Michael and Dorothy DeCarlo Alterio.

Mr. Alterio was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He was employed as a fabricator at Fort Pitt Bridge Works in Canonsburg for 40 years. He enjoyed dancing and woodworking and was a member of American Legion Post 902 and VFW Post 191.

On May 25, 1946, he married Helen Garbera, who passed away June 4, 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Adele (Frank) Large of Pittsburgh; a son, Glenn Alterio of Houston; two grandsons, Austin and Patrick Large; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Alterio was the last of his immediate family.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Ann Avolia, Mary Mahramus, Edith Gisoni, Dolores Abbandanza, Ester Alterio and Alvera Vargo, and three brothers, Louis Alterio, Domenic Altieri and Daniel Alterio.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg, where services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 29, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church Orthodox Church, 601 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg, with the Rev. Joseph Oleynik officiating. A parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg, with full military honors by the U.S. Army and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 honor guard.
