Jean L. Mazza, 90, of Washington, formerly of Houston, died Thursday, January 25, 2018, in Southminster Place of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
She was born April 29, 1927, in Independence Township, a daughter of Robert and Alice Brownlee McCalmont.
Mrs. Mazza was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, and its Christian Mothers and Guild.
With her husband, she was a longtime member of Washington Country Club, where she was active in Ladies Golf Association.
She also belonged to Symphony South women’s sorority.
On November 22, 1949, she married Dr. Victor Mazza, who passed away August 13, 2017.
Surviving are two sons, Robert J. Mazza (Lauren) of Washington and Richard M. Mazza (Sharon) of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Victoria Mazza-Scott (Dylan), Nicolas Mazza, Olivia Rose Mazza and Grace Anne Mazza; a sister, Lela Keenan of Panama City, Fla.; and her former daughter-in-law, Melody “Suzy” Mazza.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are three sisters, Mary Helen Farrar, Edith Miller and Anna Carl; and a brother, Robert McCalmont.
Private graveside services will be held in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Arrangements are entrusted to McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Bright Focus Foundation (www.brightfocus.org) to support ongoing research in Alzheimer’s disease, macular degeneration and glaucoma. “Cure in Mind. Cure in Sight.”
