Joseph “Joe” P. Los passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018, in Embrace Hospice House, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was born March 22, 1935, on a farm near Scenery Hill, a son of the late Louis J. Los and Mary Buday Los. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Trout of Fredericktown.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, and then attended University of Pittsburgh on a football scholarship. After Pitt, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Hurricane Hunter Squadron based in Pensacola, Fla. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he enrolled at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, where he earned his bachelor of science degree.

He worked in the insurance industry his entire career, which culminated with a rise to the position as a senior executive at JC Penny Casualty Insurance. He concluded his career as a regulator in the Ohio Department of Insurance, retiring in 1997.

He and his wife Doris retired to Myrtle Trace in Conway, S.C. in 1997. In the ensuing years, he enjoyed volunteering at Conway Medical Center, serving as the SCORE volunteer mediator and serving the ARC committee in his Myrtle Trace community. He was an avid golfer as well.

He is survived by his wonderful wife, Doris; son Chris (Shelly); and two grandsons, Josef and Stefan of Littleton, Colo. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Mosier of Washington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, in Catholic Church of St. James with Father Timothy Akanson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Low Country Food Bank, 2864 Azalea Drive, Charleston, SC 29405 or the Catholic Church of St. James, 1071 Academy Drive, Conway, SC 29526.
