Rande J. Stottlemyer
Rande J. Stottlemyer, 62, of Charleroi, went to be with his Lord Sunday, January 28, 2018, in his home, surrounded by family, following a long battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born February 24, 1955, in Glendale, W.Va., a son of the late Kenneth and Betty Magnus Stottlemyer.
Mr. Stottlemyer attended The Bible Chapel of South Hills and loved wrestling, hunting, fishing and being a dad.
He graduated from University of Pittsburgh in 1978 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education. He was also wrestling coach for University of Pittsburgh from 1978 until his retirement in 2013. Fondly known as “Coach” by the thousands of wrestlers he coached at Pitt, camps and clubs, Mr. Stottlemyer was a two-time Junior National Freestyle Champion and a three-time NCAA All-American. He served in several offices, including as president of National Wrestling Coaches Association and chairman of the Division I NCAA Rules Committee for wrestling.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Regina Carson Stottlemyer; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Tara Stottlemyer, at home, Rebecca (Rick) Bergstedt of Swansboro, N.C., Jaclyn (Daniel) Royall of South Strabane Township and Kelsey (Jesse) Pust of Fallowfield Township; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Keith (Sarah) Stottlemyer of Riverside, Calif., Ken (Sandee) Stottlemyer of Hermitage and Rex (Caroline) Stottlemyer of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a sister, Jan Stottlemyer of Tequesta, Fla.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, Sean, who died in 1983, and a sister-in-law, Susan, who died in 1997.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday in Ferguson Funeral Home, 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. An additional visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, February 3, in The Bible Chapel, 300 Gallery Drive, McMurray. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s research.
