Ted L. Hoy, 73, of Spraggs, died at 1:22 a.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018, in his home.
He was born Sunday, August 20, 1944, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Charles Hamilton Hoy and Ruth Phillips Hoy.
Mr. Hoy was a member of Spraggs United Methodist Church.
He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Hoy was a 4-H leader for Market Steer 4-H Club in Greene County for several years. He was also a member of United Mine Workers Local 2300.
He enjoyed farming, woodworking, reading, puzzles and doing brain teasers.
Mr. Hoy was a graduate of Penn Commercial with a degree in accounting. Following his graduation, he worked for the government in Washington, D.C. He later worked for more than 10 years for Datafold Forms, running a printing press. He then worked for Kirby Coal Mine as a coal miner, retiring in 2007. He also owned and operated Drift Ridge Farms in Spraggs with his son, Tad.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Wildman Hoy, whom he married July 20, 1968; a daughter, Melissa Whetzel and husband Bobby of Moorefield, W.Va.; a son, Tad G. Hoy and wife Shera of Spraggs; and three granddaughters, Morgan Whetzel, Madison Whetzel and Shea Lynn Hoy.
Deceased is a sister, Rebecca Sue Riggs.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 1, with Pastor Ford Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Claughton Cemetery, Whiteley Township, Greene County.
