Charles Howard Sowden Jr.
Pastor Charles Howard Sowden Jr., 76, of Carmichaels, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, in his home, with his loving family by his side.
Charles had a great love for his family, friends and church. He loved going golfing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Beverly Kay Sowden; son Charles Sowden III, at home; daughters Andrea (Wesley) Shaffer of Nemacolin, Pamela (Matt) Fader of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tamela Wise (Redd Phillips) of Carmichaels and Kimberly (Dave) Grayson of Crucible; son Kenneth Davis (Dani) of Greensboro; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Hazel Rock Sowden; four sisters, Baby girl Sowden, Marylou Mcgalla, Shirley McCarty and Karen Wise; and a grandson, Anthony Charles Riggleman Sr.
Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 and spent four years in the Reserve.
He was employed by Duquesne Light for 31 years.
Charles was a pastor at First Baptist Church in Carmichaels.
The UPMC-Montefiore doctors, nurses and aides, as well as Amedisys, provided Charles with great care.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320, 724-966-5100. An additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Tuesday, July 10, in First Baptist Church of Carmichaels, with pastors Gary Cubert, Juddy Hurst and Roy Riggleman IV officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Carmichaels, in memory of Pastor Charles Sowden.
