Edwin A. Hartzell
Edwin A. “Ed” Hartzell joined his beloved wife, Shirley Joan Hartzell, in heaven, on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.
Ed was born March 24, 1935, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Mable Santmyer Hartzell and Barney Jack Hartzell.
He attended Claysville High School, graduating in 1955.
Ed worked most of his life for the U.S. Air Force Reserve and Civil Service 911th Airlift Wing at Greater Pittsburgh International Airport & 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, Colo. He was a life member of American Legion 175 in Washington and a member of Disabled American Veterans local Chapter 26, Knob Hill.
His loving wife, Joan, passed away October 15, 2014.
Ed is survived by daughters Darla (Matt) Walden and Kim (Eddie) Portillos; grandchildren John Ayre and Erica Hicks; stepgrandchildren Ale, Malena and Eddie Portillos; great-grandchildren Jonah and Autumn Ayre; a sister, Marybelle Porter of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sisters-in-law Jean Murner and Patty Hartzell; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death are sister Sis “Ethel” Risor and brother Earl “Dude” Hartzell.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Home, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14. Burial will follow in West Finley Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
