Earl R. Whipkey

Earl Russell Whipkey, 93, of Waynesburg, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in his home.

He was born Tuesday, January 27, 1925, in Nebo, a son of the late Fred Whipkey and Sadie Cumberledge Whipkey.

Mr. Whipkey was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461 and East Franklin Grange 1709 of Waynesburg for over 40 years. He loved to collect penknives and to sell and collect coins and hats. He worked as a laborer with the pipeline, did odd jobs and worked at flea markets.

He is survived by his companion of 40 years, Violet Smith English. Also surviving are three daughters, Shirley Burghy of Waynesburg, Carolyn Coppy of Webberville, Mich., and Judy Whipkey of Waynesburg; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased are two sons, Larry Gene Whipkey and Daniel Michael Whipkey; four sisters; and two brothers.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, July 21, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, with the Rev. John Poling officiating. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville.
