Mildred Zorman
Mildred “Mickey” Zorman, 99, recently of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of Crucible, died peacefully Thursday, July 19, 2018, in the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Zorman was born June 3, 1919, in Rosie Town, Westmoreland County, a daughter of the late Milich and Milica Crnkovich Evosevich.
In her younger years, she served with honor and pride as a defense worker during World War II. Mildred first worked with her sisters, Marion and Sue, at Maytam’s in New York, making bullet casings for the war effort. She then worked at Fisher Body in Cleveland, Ohio, with her sister, Kay. Mildred was a true “Rosie the Riveter,” helping build B-29 strategic bombers.
On April 15, 1944, Mildred married Louis Zorman, who died January 12, 1958.
Mrs. Zorman worked at the former Curry Home in Waynesburg, first in patient care and then later in the housekeeping department. She retired in 1982, after serving for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Zorman resided most of her life in her beloved Greene County in Serbiantown and Crucible. She worked side by side supporting her husband’s work at United Mine Workers of America Local 4731, and by helping organize the first Pony League baseball teams in Crucible. Mildred also helped on Election Days, driving the elderly to the polls to vote. She also went door to door, collecting for numerous charitable organizations.
She was a founding member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Carmichaels. Mildred was a member of Kolo Sisters and was appreciated for her cooking and baking.
Surviving are a son, Louis Zorman of Rivesville, W.Va.; a daughter, Susan E. Donovan, with whom she made her home, of Tempe; a granddaughter, Meghan Colleen Donovan; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Zorman was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are a daughter, Kathy Zorman, who died in childhood; two brothers, Michael Evosevich and Milan Evosevich; and six sisters, Eva Modrick Popincak, Sue Catanese, Katherine Grooms, Stella Shlosky, Anna Krewasky and Marian Semosky.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, 724-966-5500, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 296 Old Route 21 Road, Carmichaels, PA 15320, with the Very Rev. Rodney Torbic officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. A Pomen service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
