Virginia Alice Wier Stewart
Virginia Alice Wier Stewart, 76, of Washington, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018, following a brief battle with melanoma.
She was born November 27, 1941, in Graysville, a daughter of the late Clifford and Beulah Wier.
Virginia was a 1960 graduate of Claysville High School.
For 54 years, she was the loving and devoted wife to John W. Stewart.
She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Washington and former member of Zion United Methodist Church in Claysville. She was a strong women of faith and enjoyed volunteering and socializing with her fellow members.
As a homemaker, Virginia dedicated her life to her family. She raised her own girls and continued on to give support raising her grandchildren and eventually her great-grandchildren. She held the current title of “Nanny” with pride. She loved cooking for holidays, baby-sitting, attending school programs and sporting events, and certainly never a birthday party missed. These were the things that gave her the most joy in life, and a job from which she never wanted to retire.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are brothers Clarence Jesse Wier, Clifford Lee Wier and James “Jimmy” Wier; daughters Vickie Simms (Dave), Cindy Phillips and Alice Simms (Ray); grandchildren David, Jessica, Jarrit, Matthew, Candace, Justin and Marissa; and great-grandchildren Mariah, Bella, Cayden, Ahnesti, Ayden and August.
Virginia was expecting two more great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind her adored dog, Guss.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 219 Main Street, Claysville, PA 15323, 724-663-7373, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, with Pastor Nelson Boone officiating. Interment with follow in Claysville Cemetery.
