Frank Eugene Rasel
Frank Eugene “Gene” Rasel, 76, of Washington, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018, in his home.
He was born July 5, 1941, in Washington, a son of the late Frank W. and Mary Wright Rasel.
Following his graduation from Bethlehem-Center High School in 1959, Mr. Rasel enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his enlistment, he served with the Marines in various parts of the world, including Okinawa, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Japan and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged February 10, 1964.
For more than 20 years, Mr. Rasel worked as a coal miner for Beth Energy. He also worked as a smelter for Ritchey Metals for 16 years and drove a van for ARC.
Mr. Rasel was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, Washington County Marine Corps League 1138, Mon Valley Leathernecks, Washington Veterans of Foreign Wars and Washington County Cruisers.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed NASCAR and classic country music.
On May 23, 1965, he married Sue Cox, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Carla (David) Kraushaar of Houston, Carol (Paul) Chadwick of Amity and Candy (Gary) Ardeno of Wellsburg, W.Va.; three brothers, Ed Rasel of Lone Pine, Bob (Dee) Rasel of Farmington, N.M., and Donnie (Adele) Rasel of Washington; a sister, Edna (Tom) Barnhart of Washington; three grandchildren, Nikki Chadwick, Josh Kraushaar and Megan Kraushaar; many nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Nancy Wright.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m., the time of service, Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
