Paul L. Meighen, 88, of Canonsburg, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born December 28, 1929, in Waynesburg, a son of Leo and Vaughn Longstreth Meighen, who preceded him in death.

On June 23, 1956, he married Barbara Moniger, who survives.

He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force, where he received a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Meighen was a remote station operator for 35 years for Texas Eastern, retiring in 1984.

He was passionate about airplanes. He learned to fly at age 16, before he learned to drive. He could identify any plane that flew overhead. He was comfortable in his home and enjoyed being there as often as he could. His home was where everything began and ended. His kids were his life, and he was a devoted and caring father.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, surviving are his sons, Michael P. Meighen of Canonsburg and Patrick D. Meighen (Cathleen) of Morgantown, W.Va.; his only daughter, Catherine J. Meighen (Mark Saffron) of Bridgeville; and his two grandchildren, Luke P. and Sean P. Meighen.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor and Darla A. Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Woodruff Memorial Park, 2095 Washington Road, North Strabane Township, with full military rites accorded by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Allegheny Health Network Hospice, Office of Fund Development, Hospice and Palliative Care, 4818 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
