Emil Stanish
Emil Stanish, 67, died Sunday, June 10, 2018, in Wilmington, N.C., after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 5, 1950, in Washington, a son of Margaret Velegdon Stanish Mermon and the late Emil Alexander Stanish.
Emil was a graduate of Burgettstown High School and California University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
On September 11, 1971, he married Connie Walker of Hickory.
Emil was a teacher and elementary guidance counselor in Trinity Area School District, retiring after 30 years of service. He also coached football at Trinity High School and Washington & Jefferson College.
After retirement, his greatest joys were spending time with his granddaughters and playing golf.
In addition to his wife and mother, surviving are daughters Kiley Shafer (Wayne) and Karissa Stanish; sisters Judi Forman (Alan) and Kristine Stanish; granddaughters Briley, Brinley and Bristol Shafer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John G. Stanish, and beloved stepfather Max Mermon.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where services will be held at noon Monday, June 18, with Pastor Donna Christopher officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the U.S. Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burgettstown Athletic Scholarship Foundation, 100 Bavington Road, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
The New Hanover and Duke cancer centers and Lower Cape Fear Hospice provided Mr. Stanish with outstanding care.
