Howard L. Taylor
Howard L. Taylor, 64, of Washington, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 6, 2018, in his home.
He was born July 2, 1953, in Canonsburg, a son of Howard C. and Evelyn Irene Snarey Taylor, who both preceded him in death.
Mr. Taylor was a 1971 graduate of Canon-McMillan and a graduate of Westminster College with a double major in religion and history, before briefly attending the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh.
He was a lifelong member of Canonsburg Presbyterian Church, having served as a deacon and church school teacher. He was also proud of his Scottish heritage and was a member of the Clan McEwen.
Mr. Taylor worked as a cook at Elby’s Big Boy, Bob Evans and King’s restaurants, and as a part-time Santa Claus.
An avid collector, Howard had many interests and hobbies. He loved building scale model circus trains and served as ringmaster or president for Circus Model Builders Inc., Terrell Jacobs Ring 7. He was a talented miniature train builder, showing his work at different venues.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara Nelson (J. Andrew) of Sun Prairie, Wis., and a niece, Lauren M. Nelson.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, and Darla A. Tripoli LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, in Canonsburg First United Presbyterian Church, 112 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Everyone should meet at the church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, 3739 Washington Road, McMurray.
