Marion Gusoff Muchant
Marion Gusoff Muchant passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018, in Wells, Maine.
Marion was born February 7, 1932, and raised in Marianna, the youngest of six children born to James Gusoff and Bertha Payanoff Gusoff. She graduated from West Bethlehem High School in 1949.
After marrying Robert Muchant February 2, 1950, she relocated to a farm in Deemston, where the couple raised five daughters.
From 1968 through 1983, Marion worked as an office manager in Brownsville, which provided her with a sense of independence and strength that was shared with her daughters.
In addition to her work outside the home and reveling in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, Marion enjoyed solving Sunday crossword puzzles, working in her garden (her flower beds were a sight to behold), visiting with friends on the back deck and volunteering at Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Deemston, and Fredericktown Public Library.
After Robert’s death, Marion moved to River Woods in Lewisburg, where she made a new set of friends. Earlier this year, she moved to Avita of Wells to receive specialized memory care.
Deceased are her parents; siblings; husband, who died in 2010; and a daughter, Anita, who died in 2008.
Marion is survived by four daughters, Sheila Littlefield (Michael) of Kennebunk, Maine, Dianne Muchant (Robert Hazard) of Lewisburg, Cynthia Kane (Joe) of Carolina, R.I., and Carolyn Taraban (Roman) of Lubbock, Texas; five grandchildren, Justin Littlefield (Tina) of Wellesley, Mass., Rob Kane of Florence, Italy, Tom Kane of Boston, Mass., and Lindsay Taraban and Meghan Taraban, both of Pittsburgh; two “grape” grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Littlefield; and many beloved nieces and nephews, including Beverly Roberts of Raleigh, N.C.
The staff of Griswold Home Care in Bloomsburg and Avita of Wells provided Marion with great care as her health declined over the past few years. Her daughters often commented, “It takes a village to care for a mother,” and appreciate the assistance of some excellent “villagers.”
Donations in memory of Marion Muchant may be made to Fredericktown Public Library, 38 Water Street, Fredericktown, PA 15333.
A private memorial service will be planned at a later date.
