Iris Helene Hallam Medvid, 82, of Oakdale, passed away peacefully Monday, June 25, 2018, in the arms of her only child, Daniel Medvid (Julia Gardner) of Charlotte, N.C.

Iris grew up in McDonald, a daughter of the late John Earl and Matilda Lacey Hallam. She then married her beloved Nufrie, who preceded her in death 11 years ago.

She began working for Bell Telephone Co. as an operator in 1954 and retired from the company as a circuit engineer in 1986.

She was the proud grandmother of twins Sophia and Zoe.

One of nine children, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Matilda Mackey, Lillian Smith, Edith Mariani and Gladys Flint, and brother Edward. Surviving are brothers Jack, Richard and Daniel.

She was loved by many in-laws, nieces and nephews; her stepson, Darrell Medvid (Vicki) of Spring Hill, Fla.; and her Oakdale neighbors and McDonald friends.

Iris enjoyed gambling at The Meadows Casino, a cold glass of wine and never being wrong a day in her life.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Thomas-Little Funeral Service Inc., 500 Noblestown Road, Oakdale, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 28. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
