Louis Palone Sr.

Louis “Weasel” Palone Sr., 93, of Dry Tavern, quietly passed away Monday, June 25 after a brief stay in Waynesburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Serbiantown, Crucible, December 18, 1924, the youngest of eight boys, to Frank Palone Sr. and Louise Falgiani. He was the last of his immediate family.

Mr. Palone served in the U.S. Army with the Third Infantry Division, 15th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, during World War II with a heavy machine gun squad in Italy, Southern France, Germany and Central Europe, attaining the rank of sergeant. He received a Purple Heart for wounds he sustained near Cisterna, Italy, during the Anzio campaign in spring 1944, and a second Purple Heart later in the war.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Palone worked at Crucible Mine until it closed. He then owned and operated the R&L Auto Body Shop in Dry Tavern. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and watching the Steelers. He loved animals.

Mr. Palone was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Rices Landing; American Legion Post 816, Rices Landing; and Military Order of the Purple Heart.

On April 17, 1948, he married Anna Violet Sagosky, who survives. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Palone is survived by three sons, Louis (Cathy) Palone Jr. of Waterford, Conn., Vincent (Roxane) Palone of Kirby and Carmen (Mary Brosovich) Palone of Mather, and three grandchildren, Lisa, Frank and Vincent Palone.

He also leaves behind his cat, Rusty.

Mr. Palone was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion Sr., Arthur, Samuel Sr., Fred, Frank, Raymond and Quinty Palone.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a blessing service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30, with the Rev. John M. Bauer officiating.

Interment will be held in Greene County Memorial Park, Jefferson Road, Morgan Township, with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post 391 of Fredericktown, Post 816 of Rices Landing and the U.S. Army.
