Joseph L. Schneider
Joseph L. Schneider, 88, of Canonsburg, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in Greenery Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Canonsburg.
He was born June 21, 1930, in Pittsburgh to Lawrence and Hannah Nora Grey Schneider, who preceded him in death.
He resided in Canonsburg since 1993, having previously resided in Carmichaels for 22 years.
Mr. Schneider was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Canonsburg, where he was a member of Catholic Men’s Club. His memberships also included Knights of Columbus Counsel 3291, where he served as a fourth degree Bishop Boyle Assembly.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the third Armored Tank Battalion. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 in Houston.
Mr. Schneider was the last of his immediate family.
He is survived by his two sons, Thomas Joseph Schneider (Deloris) of Murrysville and Edward Francis Schneider (Gail) of Red Oaks, Texas; daughter Mary Elizabeth Doyle of Murrysville; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Schneider, Matthew Thomas Schneider and Kayleen Nicole Brand (Jonathan); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Frank, Ray, Paul E., Lawrence and Robert Schneider; sister Josephine Hollarm; and his former wife, Sheila M. Schneider.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor and Darla A. Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 2. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg, with full military rites accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and U.S. Army Honor Guard. Knights of Columbus service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
