Kenneth Francis Abate Jr., 45, formally of Burgettstown, died Friday, February 23, 2018, in Leon, Mexico, due to complications in surgery.
He was born July 6, 1972, in Rochester, Beaver County, a son of Kenneth Abate Sr. of Slovan and Denise Chappell Rumbaugh of Emlenton.
He was a graduate of Burgettstown High School and attended Indiana State College. He also spent three years in the U.S. Navy. Until 2016, he had lived in Dublin, Ohio, with his wife, Gisela, to whom he had been married for 15 years. They then moved to Leon, because of job relocation.
He loved vegetable gardening, traveling, riding his bike and spending time with his dogs.
Surviving, in addition to his parents and his wife, Gisela Garcia, are his stepfather, Byron Rumbaugh; grandparents Clyde and Lillian Chappell of Langeloth; brother Dominic Abate of Slovan; uncle Clyde (Bonny) Chappell of Washington; aunt Margie (Frank Kriznik) of Burgettstown; nephews and niece Trevor, Carter, Mason and Jilian Abate; cousins Devon, Dylan and Logan Chappell and Michael and David Kriznik. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, sister-in-law and nephews from Leon.
Deceased are his aunt, Debra Chappell Strong, and his grandparents, Frank and Margaret Abate.
A private memorial will be held later for the immediate family.
