Bruno Joseph Colussi

Bruno Joseph Colussi, 87, died Friday, March 23, 2018, in Washington Hospital after a brief illness. He was a kind and loving man who always thought of others before himself.

He was born July 22, 1930, in Bridgeville, a son of the late Valentino and Marina Colussi, who immigrated from Poffabro, Italy in 1927.

Mr. Colussi was a stone mason and built many of the homes in Washington, working with his brothers and father in the family-formed company his father started, Val Colussi and Sons. He was treasurer of Colussi Corp. and vice president of 84 Equipment and Supply. He was a life member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 9 Union. He and his siblings also formed ValMar Associates.

He served in the U.S. Army 109th Engineer Combat Battalion during the Korean War. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Netherlands government for assistance rendered during the floods in February 1953.

Mr. Colussi was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and a First Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 1083.

He was a charter member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands and a member of the Holy Name Society. For 20 years, he volunteered at bingo and truly enjoyed socializing with the people there.

After retirement, he enjoyed camping at Big Bear Lake in West Virginia for 19 years. He loved woodworking and made over 200 intarsia pieces for his family and friends. He was a perfectionist in every piece he produced.

On April 25, 1959, he married Doris Maracani, who died November 8, 1978. On June 8, 1984, he married Rose Marie Deco, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Cheryl Bunner of Washington and Barry (Amy) Colussi of Finleyville; stepchildren, John (Jackie) Deco Jr., Debra (Mark) Harmon, Becky (Gary) Zito and Ginger (Donnie) Deco-Phillips; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Vetere, Stephanie (Gary) McNeely, Marcy (Joe) Menale, Beth Ann (Matt) Dady, Steven (Jen) Harmon, Tricia (Chris) Bryker, Melissa (Christian) Arabia, Heather (Andy) Baetzold, Rachel (Sam) Mullen, Jacob Bunner, Roger (Christine) Noce, James (Jennifer) Penrose II, Johnna (Adam) Bear, Michelle (Ben) Bunner, Jonathan (Holli) Noce, Courtney (Steve) Zito and Hunter Phillips; 31 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Walsh of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and first wife, are his siblings, Salvatore, who died in infancy, Salvatore J., Victor and Iola Nakoneczny and Mary Colussi; and a grandson, Gary Hans Zito.

Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 535 Pike Street, Meadow Lands. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
